Privacy Policy — ChordProgressionMaker

Overview

ChordProgressionMaker.com is operated by Emily Sanders. This Privacy Policy explains what information this site collects, how it is used, and what rights you have in relation to it.

ChordProgressionMaker.com does not sell personal data. It does not operate advertising networks. It does not use behavioural tracking cookies. The site’s primary tool — the Chord Progression Maker — is a pure music theory calculation tool that requires no microphone, accepts no file uploads, and makes no network requests for tool output. No personal data of any kind is collected or transmitted as part of using the tool. This policy documents that commitment in full.

If you have questions about any part of this policy, contact Emily Sanders at contact@chordprogressionmaker.com. Privacy and data requests receive a response within 7 business days.

Tool Data Handling

The Chord Progression Maker operates entirely within your browser. When you select a root note, key, and progression style, the tool performs all calculations locally using JavaScript. No data is transmitted to any server as part of this process.

Specifically:

  • No microphone is accessed at any point
  • No audio is captured, processed, or stored
  • No audio files are accepted or uploaded
  • Your key selection, root note, and progression style inputs are not transmitted to any server
  • Generated chord progressions are displayed on screen only and are not stored, logged, or transmitted
  • All tool inputs and outputs are cleared when you close or reload the page

There is no audio pipeline to document on this site because there is no audio pipeline. For the full technical explanation of how the calculation works, see the Data Security page.

Automatically Collected Information

When you visit any page on ChordProgressionMaker.com, the web server automatically logs standard HTTP request data. This may include:

  • Your IP address (used for server-side security and rate limiting; not used for tracking)
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system
  • The page URL requested
  • The HTTP referrer (the page you visited before this one, if any)
  • The date and time of the request

This data is retained in server logs for up to 30 days for security and diagnostic purposes and is then deleted. It is not combined with any other data to identify you individually. It is not shared with third parties except where required by law.

Analytics

ChordProgressionMaker.com may use basic anonymous analytics to understand aggregate site usage — page views, browser distribution, and approximate geographic region. Any analytics tool used on this site collects only anonymised, aggregate data. It does not track individual users across sessions, does not use behavioural profiling, and does not have access to tool inputs or outputs.

No advertising analytics, no user-level profiling, and no cross-site tracking are in use on this site.

Note for future update: When Google Analytics or Google AdSense is added to this site, update this section to add the Google Analytics cookie table (_ga, _gid, _gat with lifespans) and the Google AdSense / DoubleClick cookie disclosure, along with all four advertising opt-out links.

Advertising

ChordProgressionMaker.com does not currently run advertising of any kind. There are no advertising cookies on this site. There are no DoubleClick cookies. There are no third-party advertising scripts loaded on any page of this site.

If advertising services are added to this site in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated before those services go live, and a dedicated advertising section — including full disclosure of any advertising cookies, opt-out mechanisms, and GDPR/CCPA implications — will be added at that time.

Cookies

This site uses only essential functional cookies necessary for basic site operation — for example, WordPress session cookies that maintain site stability and security. No tracking cookies, no advertising cookies, and no third-party profiling cookies are set by this site.

Tool inputs, chord progression results, and key selections are not stored in cookies or any persistent browser storage. For a full breakdown of the cookies used on this site and how to manage them, see the Cookie Policy.

Voluntary Contact Data

If you contact Emily Sanders via the contact form or by email at contact@chordprogressionmaker.com, the following data is collected:

  • Your name (if provided)
  • Your email address
  • The content of your message

This data is used solely to respond to your enquiry. It is not added to any mailing list, not shared with third parties, and not used for any purpose beyond handling your specific request. Contact data is retained for up to 12 months after the last correspondence and then deleted.

Third-Party Links

ChordProgressionMaker.com may contain links to external websites — including music theory references, harmony textbooks, and educational music resources. This Privacy Policy applies only to ChordProgressionMaker.com. Emily Sanders is not responsible for the privacy practices of any third-party site. You are encouraged to review the privacy policy of any external site you visit.

Data Security

All pages on ChordProgressionMaker.com are served over HTTPS. Data transmitted between your browser and this site’s server is encrypted in transit. Contact form submissions are transmitted securely. Tool inputs and outputs never travel over the network and therefore require no network-level security protection — they are protected by the fact that they never leave your browser.

Children’s Privacy

ChordProgressionMaker.com does not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13. The site does not require account registration and does not request personal information from any user as part of using the tool. No data of any kind is transmitted during tool use. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal data through the contact form, contact Emily Sanders at contact@chordprogressionmaker.com and the data will be deleted promptly.
